“A perfect time to come together”
The Little School is committed to supporting families with a broad range of needs and schedules Families can enroll their children for additional modules at The Little School up to a full day for each day their child attends class. The different components of our extended care program are:
EARLY MORNING Care: M-F; 8:30 - 9:15 AM
Early morning care is a relaxed, comforting time to ease into the morning with our floating teacher and informal activities in our large multi-use space, The Skyroom. Children and teacher walk each other to class (at 9:00 or 9:15 depending on child’s class schedule). Families sign up for as many days as they need.
EXTENDED MORNING CARE M-F 8:45 AM-12:30 PM
This program is designed for children from MFPM or TK whose parents are working full-time. Half home playdate, half class experience, six to seven children and one teacher spend a relaxed morning together, Using the yellow building and yard as home base, children play, explore and develop projects together. The other Little School spaces—kitchen, entryway, classroom and skyroom-- are also available to this small group as it makes its way through activity times, lunch and rest time before joining their afternoon class. Preference given to families enrolling all five days.
LUNCH BUNCH: M-F; 12:00-12:45 PM
Children from both TTH or MWF classes share a relaxed lunchtime with teachers from their morning class and PM Care. Parents provide a bag lunch. Participants in “Lunch Bunch” enjoy some extra outdoor play time, and bonding with friends from their core class and beyond. An extra story time provides the transition to Extended Afternoon Care for those who participate. Families sign up for as many days as they need.
EXTENDED AFTERNOON CARE: M-F; 12:45-5:30 PM
Our afternoon program is designed as a more informal encounter, where children of different ages can combine the deeper exploration of their interests with learning opportunities that emerge from the caretaking activities of napping/resting, eating, and dressing. A typical day includes -
- A nap or rest time, tailored to individual children
- Healthy nutritious snack frequently created by the children;
- Outdoor play time;
- An indoor play-time that might range from a craft project to a dance party to dramatic play based on the children’s interests.
- The extra nurturing that children may need during a full-day at school.
Families often hang out at school at the end of the day, chatting with teachers relaxing after a busy day at work. Teachers work to build the home-school connection in as many ways as possible so that both children and adults find extended day to be a positive home-away-from-home learning experience. Families sign up for as many days as they need.
LATE AFTERNOON CARE: M-F; 4:30-5:30 PM
TK or MFPM children whose parents cannot pick them up at 4:30 when their afternoon class ends spend the final hour with the extended day teachers and a few other children in a multi-age group. Always an intimate number, this group fits the daily activities to their mood and needs that day. Sometimes, this means swinging in the skychairs in the Skyroom, creating mazes or snuggling in with stories. Whatever happens, it is a nice way to end the day. Families sign up for as many days as they need.
*This is the cost for one day for the entire school year (September - last week of May). If you are enrolled in Lunch Bunch for two days the cost would be $890 for the entire school year.
