Notes from the teachers:
We are excited to begin our summer adventures in the beautiful Presidio Woods and Crissy Field! We have been planning and are ready to go. All meeting locations and dates are included below and on this PDF. Please read carefully and share with anyone who will be transporting your child to/from camp--locations for pick-up and drop-off change throughout the summer weeks!! If your child is scheduled for the afternoon program, they will be picked up by Kidzjet and brought back to Little School. The children will always be accompanied by a teacher.
Please arrive at our daily destination as close to 9:00 a.m. as possible, and no later than 9:30am. Staggered pick-ups/drop-offs off-site require teachers to use their phones, delay transitions, and otherwise impact the whole group’s timing and supervision If you have an appointment or other scheduled and non-flexible commitment, please communicate with us at least one day in advance so teachers can plan the best time and place to meet with you, and minimize distractions and disruptions for the group. If your child is enrolled in the afternoon program, you can also drop them off at school for the afternoon program at 1:30pm. Please be sure to sign your child in before leaving them at camp.

What to Wear and What to Bring
Your child should bring a backpack that they will carry every day. This backpack should be well-fitted for your child and should be large enough and contain:
1. A set of labeled extra clothes (socks, underwear, pants, shirt)
2. A small, durable bottle full of water (no juice please- the wasps love juice!)
3. A paper bag lunch. (Please note: we typically eat on a sheet on the ground. Please pack items that are easy to eat in a picnic setting.)
Please dress your child in comfortable layers: sturdy/comfortable/covered shoes, pants (no shorts while in The Presidio), T-shirt, sweatshirt and even a jacket and hat (if necessary). Ankles and legs need to be covered to protect from poison oak, nettle bushes and ticks (all of these are especially prevalent in summer).
Please apply sunscreen to your child daily. We will reapply as needed.
Please be sure to label ALL items, clothing, water bottles, backpacks, etc. to avoid losing and/or mixing children’s items up. (Mabel's Labels is a fundraising partner - Visit http://campaigns.mabelslabels.com/ and choose The Little School!)
Lunch (and the bees and wasps)
We ask that instead of packing your child’s lunch in a lunchbox, you put it directly into the backpack. It makes the backpack easier to carry. Please pack a small water bottle and avoid packing juice or soda, which attracts yellow jackets. Some other foods to avoid besides juice: Sweets, juicy fruits or anything sticky or gooey. Yogurt and other dairy products that spoil easily in hot weather should also be avoided on appropriate days.
Rainy Days
We love exploring the woods in the rain and will only miss out on the woods in the event of dangerous weather. If it only looks like rain, or heavy fog, we will meet at our scheduled location. If it is unsafe rainy conditions, for example thunder and lightning, we will email and ProCare message you our drop off and pick up location by 8:00AM. Please dress your child accordingly, as we may be walking to our cover location. We recommend rain boots, rain pants, and a raincoat so that your child stays dry, comfortable, and warm. The Little School has rain gear for any families for whom this is a hardship, or if the forecast changes unexpectedly.
Rain Gear Options:
**Splashy Nylon Children's One Piece Rainsuits and MudStopper Coveralls
**L.L.Bean
**REI
The Fun Stuff
Now that we’ve given you the nitty gritty we’d like to give you an idea of what the program is really all about. We will meet and spend about 20-30 minutes there checking in, playing and planning our morning together. We will then have a Woods Meeting during which we discuss where we’re going and what we’re doing, any special projects we have planned, safety expectations and anything else the children want to discuss. We’ll then give out partners, gather our backpacks and begin our day of outdoor adventures! We will only go to one or two close-by sites each day. We attempt to balance physical activity and down time, which will include listening to stories, singing, digging in the sand, snack time and art projects that will often incorporate our daily nature finds. Other plans include tree climbing, fort building, face painting, working in our journals, singing songs, participating in movement activities and whatever else the children seem to be interested in. This is a truly fun program that we as teachers love. The fresh air, the community building, the empowerment kids feel when they climb that tree or hike up that hill all make it a refreshingly rural experience in our beautiful but often restricted big city. We look forward to spending the summer with your children!!
